About

Carolyn Ford

After my degree in Psychology I worked for Age Concern as a community worker and realised how much counselling can help people work through life’s difficulties and challenges, so started training as a counsellor at Goldsmiths and then completed my Masters in Psychological Counselling at Surrey University.

I have been lucky enough to work as a therapist in several countries apart from the U.K; in private practice in Chile and Bangkok, and in the USA in a hospice as a Bereavement counsellor. Living in these different countries has given me insight and experience in working with relocation stress, cross-cultural relationships and adapting to new situations.

For several years I was a consultant  in stress management, and in trauma, for UNICEF, the United Nations, and the European Union. My approach is evidence-based using an integrative model drawing from Humanistic Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the  Psychodynamic approach. Each modality has unique approaches and is effective for different psychological issues. Over the years I have trained in Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Wellbeing and Resilience, Critical Stress management, Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy, Family Focused Grief Therapy, Play Therapy, and Emotional Freedom Technique amongst others. In addition I offer short term therapy through Brainworking Recursive Therapy.

I am registered and accredited with The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).

  • Accredited Registrant Member MNCPS (Acc.), National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society
